A NOTE FROM THE RAISE STAFF

For the past 23 years Raise has developed specialized curriculums and offered classes in the Gospel Arts with the intent of some day establishing an accredited school and center for the gospel arts. In order to more effectively pursue our vision, Raise decided to take a sabbatical from teaching in 2007. This temporary leave has enabled us to more clearly focus upon the establishment of our long-term vision to build this accredited gospel arts program. It has allowed our teaching staff to pursue additional degrees and credentials.... read more

Raise Productions began serving the Columbus, Ohio community in 1985, when Founder and President, Raymond Wise shared his ideas and vision to establish a Gospel music production company and educational facility with his two friends, Frank Lane and Shuryl Sutherland, the former and later served as Vice President and Assistant Vice President respectively .Though Wise had produced events under the name of Raise Productions in other areas of the country, the three friends joined together to establish a permanent home and branch of Raise Productions in Columbus, Ohio.

Raise’s ongoing mission is to preserve, perpetuate, and promote ongoing professionalism within the field of gospel music in both sacred and secular, academic and non-academic settings.aise achieves this mission by its participation in five focus areas: Gospel Music and Arts Education, Performance, Production & Publishing, Ministry, & Support Services.

Though Raise Productions and The Center for the Gospel Arts is not a church, it is a ministry.  As such Raise aims to conduct its classes and services based upon Christian principles and is wholly devoted to drawing out the unique gifts and talents of its students. In fact, Raise specializes in assisting gospel artists in discovering and developing their talents for use in ministry within their local churches and throughout the world.  Though committed to the preservation and perpetuation of Gospel Music as a African American cultural art form in scholarly and secular forums, Raise’s primary goal is to offer instruction in the Gospel Arts as a means of preparing musicians and artist for service within African-American churches or other Christian ministries.

Since its inception, Raise Productions has always had the vision to open a facility solely devoted to the instruction of Gospel Music, Ministry, and the Gospel Arts.  In 1992 Raise established the Center for the Gospel Arts.  Raise’s ultimate goal however, is to build a performing arts complex devoted to the preservation, perpetuation and promotion of Gospel music and the Gospel Arts, at which an accredited degree granting program can be implemented.

Therefore, Raise has continually worked toward the development of pedagogy, scholarly research, and academic texts to be used for the instruction of the Gospel Arts in both academic and non-academic settings throughout the world.By offering classes in Gospel piano, voice, conducting, drums and percussion, composition, music ministry, praise and worship, church music administration, etc., Raise has helped to equip more than 5000 gospel artists and has not only served their local community, but the nation and the world through the various educational programs, teaching materials, support services, performing ensembles and ministries they have offered.
